For over 75 years, Marine Credit Union has been dedicated to serving our communities. This commitment is at the heart of our mission: to advance the lives of people from a place of financial need to a life of ownership and giving back in our communities.
In early 2024, we took a significant step forward in living out our mission by establishing a new department: The Community Outreach Team. This team is devoted to promoting financial empowerment and building a stronger, healthier community.
Racine-local Community Lead, Aaron McCollum, has focused his efforts in very meaningful ways.
Throughout the year, Aaron has educated and empowered youth in financial education. Partnering with organizations like Junior Achievement, Secure Futures, Asset Builders of America and the City of Racine’s Financial Empowerment Center, Marine has been able to offer workshops and engaging activities to help students learn about financial concepts in fun and interactive ways.
In July, Marine hosted the Racine Community Appreciation Celebration, inviting members and community partners to a summer cookout at our Financial Empowerment Center. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with members and local nonprofits that share our mission of providing critical resources to those who may otherwise not receive them.
August saw our involvement in the Racine “Rock the Block” week of community service, aimed at revitalizing a low-income neighborhood where many elderly and disabled members live. The team of MCU employees, Volunteer Center of Racine volunteers, and local high school students mowed lawns, repaired steps and doors, and trimmed bushes. Over 70 pounds of garbage and litter were collected in just one day!
These few stories only scratch the surface of what Aaron has been up to in Racine! A few other worthy things to mention this fall included building homes for families in need, celebrating the vibrant diversity of the Racine community and its students, honoring those lost to overdose and those who grieve, and offering personalized financial solutions to local Veteran heroes.
The best is yet to come from Aaron and Marine Credit Union. We are grateful for your continued support as we strive to make a positive impact in the communities we all call home. Thank you for being a part of this journey with us!
